Why light‑truck (LT) tyres are often a better choice for caravans 🛻
Passenger‑car tyres are designed for comfort. Light‑truck (LT) tyres are designed to carry weight, resist heat, and stay stable under load — which is exactly what you want when you’re towing a caravan. LT tyres have stronger sidewalls, higher load ratings, and far less flex at highway speeds. That reduced flex is what keeps the rig feeling planted, especially when the van moves behind you or when you’re overtaking trucks.
For us, switching to LT tyres made the single biggest improvement to how the Everest felt when towing. We never towed without the suspension upgrade, so we can’t compare before and after there — but the jump from passenger tyres to LT tyres was immediate and obvious. The steering felt more settled, the rear of the car stopped feeling “squirmy”, and the whole rig tracked straighter with far less effort. It was easily the best money we spent when chasing towing‑handling improvements.

For us, they’ve never been part of our towing setup. We prefer to focus on getting the fundamentals right — weight distribution, towball weight, axle loads, tyre pressures, and overall balance — rather than adding extra hardware. A well‑set‑up rig should feel stable, drive well, and ride level without needing a WDH.

A rig that feels rock‑solid at 90 can feel nervous and unpredictable at 105. Nothing else changes except the speed.
